Launch Meeting was a Success
Launch Team Meeting #3
11/16/08
Assimilation Process
Scratch the surface to function as a team, Lina’s talk, Liz’s talk, encourage you to be involved, and then at the end we will take up a donation for HC and pray together.
HC is called to the unchurched, called to the transformation of the lives of others.
Vision-To Know Christ and Make Him Known
Will spend our life on self Indulgence, or give our lives away to a cause greater than ourselves?
Mission-incarnate ourselves among the brokenness of people’s lives, and help reshape a future that looked lost, lit by a glimmer of Hope, called the Church, the hope of the world, col 1:27 Christ in you the hope of Glory.
I want to invite you not to come to a church, but to be “The Church”, be the hands and feet and voice of JC and join in the struggles of others with God’s love.
We are at a critical time in our launch team
This could be the perspective…read The Little Red Hen…
The Little Red Hen
Here a story that made quite an impression on me as a little kid. It is the reality that every entrepreneur and visionary will have to face...
(A Golden Book, New York) Western Publishing Company, Inc, Racine, WI 53404
Once there was a Little Red Hen who lived in a barnyard with her three chicks and a duck, a pig and a cat.
One day the Little Red Hen found some grains of wheat. "Look look!" she clucked. "Who will help me plant this wheat?"
"Not I", quaked the duck, and he waddled away.
"Not I", oinked the pig, and he trotted away.
"Not I, meowed the cat, and he padded away.
"Then I will plant it myself," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.
When the wheat was tall and golden, the Little Red Hen knew it was ready to be cut. "Who will help me cut the wheat?" she asked.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I," said the pig.
"Not I," said the cat
"Then I will cut this wheat myself". And she did.
"Now", said the Little Red Hen, "it is time to take the wheat to the miller so he can grind it into flour. Who will help me?"
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I," said the pig.
"Not I," said the cat.
"Then I will take the wheat to the miller myself," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.
The miller ground the wheat into fine white flour and put it into a sack for the Little Red Hen.
When she returned to the barnyard, the Little Red Hen asked, "Who will help me make this flour into dough?"
Not I," said the duck, the pig and the cat all at once.
"Then I will make the dough myself," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.
When the dough was ready to go into the oven, the Little Red Hen asked, "Who will help me bake the bread?"
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I," said the pig.
"Not I," said the cat.
"Then I Will bake it myself," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.
Soon the bread was ready. As she took it from the oven, the Little Red Hen asked, "Well who Will help me eat this warm, fresh bread?"
"I will," said the duck.
"I will," said the pig.
"I will," said the cat.
"No you won't," said the Little Red Hen. "You wouldn't help me plant the seeds, cut the wheat, go to the miller, make the dough or bake the bread. Now, my three chicks and I will eat this bread ourselves!"
And that's just what they did.
And the moral of this story is.................
Don't expect anyone to help you. They will wait until there is no work to be done and no risk to be taken. They will step up and expect you to share with them as if they helped you. duh!
Many think from their perspective that we have a lot of time before we launch, but on the contrary It has been my observation that it takes a minimum of 1 year for a church planter to build a launch/core team & make inroads into a community and begin to build the systems and leadership necessary to plant:
1. Assimilation process
2. Evangelism network
3. System to mobilize spiritual gifts
4. Build a children’s ministry team
5. Build a worship team and plan for the first public services, after you have done at least 4 “practice” services
Any great business starts with communication, assimilation and then production
I am looking for those that hold the urgency in their heart to see a great church launched to this community
There is a difference between a group and a team- a group is a lump but a team functions.
Ex: Football-head coach-calls plays, assist coaches, QB-follow HC, throw, run, defensive line- protect QB and push back offensive line- move the ball up the field
I believe we have the all the right ingredients that a team needs, it simply needs the baker to put them all together, in their right measures, and mix it all up.
Jim Collins in his book good to great says that you must get the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right people in the right seat on the bus.
Your area of giftedness is your sweet spot.
Ex: Golf club-hitting the ball in the sweet spot of the club
The Need for Workers
Mat 9:35-38 NLT
35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”
John 4:34-38
34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. 35 You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe[e] for harvest. 36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike! 37 You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. 38 I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.”
Pass out Involuntary Involvement Card-Bring up Lina and Liz
Horizons: Our Ability to Succeed is our Willingness to Serve- to act function, wait on, be of assistance, meet a need, to put in play
Mat 20:28 I came not to be served but to serve others and to give my life as a ransom for many.
The way to engage in this life with Jesus is by serving others Involuntarily.
By default we serve because that is the DNA strand of Christ in us.
Financial Piece
Most people see a need for a church out there that can meet the needs of others.
PCI bid-not real estate, not utilities just equipment More than $126,000.
It takes the commitments of others to do that.
When people get mad at the church or a pastor the first thing to go is their money, and then later their body follow their money out the door.
When people first come after they buy into the leader, his vision, and the organization, the last thing to arrive is their money.
Kirk Gibson back in Oct 1984 hit the homer that caused the Detroit Tigers to win the World Series in Baseball. On the Front page of the Detroit Free Press was Kirk Gibson's pose hands lifted jumping and face contorted with triumph
-exclaiming this is what I was born for!
Scripture says that where your treasure is there your heart will be also.
Exo 35-36 Offerings for the Tabernacle
4 Then Moses said to the whole community of Israel, “This is what the LORD has commanded: 5 Take a sacred offering for the LORD. Let those with generous hearts present gifts to the LORD: gold silver and bronze
21 All whose hearts were stirred and whose spirits were moved came and brought their sacred offerings to the LORD. They brought all the materials needed for the Tabernacle
29 So the people of Israel—every man and woman who was eager to help in the work the LORD had given them through Moses—brought their gifts and gave them freely to the LORD.
But the people continued to bring additional gifts each morning. 4 Finally the craftsmen who were working on the sanctuary left their work. 5 They went to Moses and reported, “The people have given more than enough materials to complete the job the LORD has commanded us to do!”
6 So Moses gave the command, and this message was sent throughout the camp: “Men and women, don’t prepare any more gifts for the sanctuary. We have enough!” So the people stopped bringing their sacred offerings. 7 Their contributions were more than enough to complete the whole project.
Thank You all who attended and gave tonight. God Bless You.
Those that couldn't come missed it!

Horizons 2nd Meeting was a Huge Success!!!
The next meeting you want to put on the calendar is November 9th at 5pm. It definately will not be at my house! We love our house, but it definately can't hold all you fine folks forever. Plus I don't want to stifle our growth, so let's keep moving. The next location is "to be announced", isn't that fun?
Handfuls of families signed up last night, while others are praying about it. Let's consider getting on this ride, and as a team let's put our faith in Christ alone, and let Him bring us to the place where we really want to be...On the Horizon!
(you would only understand that if you were there last night...you missed it...)
God Bless, I will be praying for you,

Vision Content
Ø Introduction
Horizons Church is a new church launching in Macomb Township on September 20, 2009. Horizons will launch 12 churches in the next 24 years. I want you to be a part of an incredible vision that is mobilizing and reaching others in a real and rewarding way. God loves you. You were born for this!
Ø Objective
Horizons Church is called to reach the unchurched. It will be a church for those who don’t like to go to church! Cultural relevance to people makes an impact. But Jesus’ plan for Horizons is anchored in something deeper than cultural relevance- transformation. The power to transform lives is seeded by the Spirit of Jesus challenging us to come out into deeper waters of trust and faith. He transforms us as He traces his image over us. As we follow Jesus on this journey of faith, we have the opportunity to mirror Jesus to our communities with the same compelling words and grace of our Creator.
Ø The Vision
To Know Christ and Make Him Known
People desire to gives their lives. We can trust God with what we cannot see. All of us have limited time on Earth, our lifespan. Will you spend it on self Indulgence? Trust God with your lives. Take a risk on God. Commit yourself to this dangerous journey. Be the hands, feet, and voice of Jesus Christ and join in the struggles of others with God’s love. Then you will see something beautiful exist, where it never existed before.
Ø The Mission
To incarnate ourselves in the midst of the brokenness of people’s lives; to help reshape a future that looked lost, dimly lit by a glimmer of hope called, The Church-The Hope of the World. Col 1:27 Christ in You the Hope of Glory-Be the Church!
Ø Core Values
1. Love God & Others
2. Lock Arms in community to “Be the Church”
3. Live openhandedly to meet the needs.
Ø Partnerships
Would you consider partnering with us to reach people? There are so many ways to get involved. Your gifts and talents add great value to others. You can trust God with your life. Consider making Horizons Church a priority in prayer, commitment, and involvement. Together, let’s lead others, to find answers, in their quest for God!

Coming Soon
There is a difference between a group and a team.
A group is simply a lump. It takes up space, slow and unproductive, not serving much of a purpose.
A team has a function. A team is involved. A team takes risks together. A team is creative, and has a purpose. A team exists only to succeed together.
Horizons isn't looking for just anyone, but the right ones! No lumps! The team at HC will function as a well oiled machine operating individually in their sweet-spot!
I got a chance to golf the other day with my dad. I had a few good shots. But one particular shot was so sweet I didn't even feel it and it sailed down the fairway. It was easy. But I had the right club.
Operating in our sweet-spot is similar to not only possessing the right tools, but using the right tools at the right time.
All of us have the God-given tools resident on the inside of us. Allow God to use you at the right time and see what He will do for you!!!

Torch Lake
IT’S WHERE YOU WANT TO BE
Friday pm
Process-leaving what is comfortable
The series of steps or methods to a desired result; to compile compute or assemble data
Process comes after the calling, after you start on a desired path of commitment
Process: connector between 2 points-vision and destiny-a-z
There is a process in pregnancy- from inception-delivery
Inception
Pregnancy-term
Delivery
Growth
God has a purpose in our process of life
Much of life is not spent on a mountain top but in the valley
Mountain tops are cold and small, but valley may have some uphill climbs, but also have rivers, streams and shelter.
Gen 2:15
15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
SOS 1:6 They made me the keeper of the vineyards, But my own vineyard I have not kept
We have a responsibility to dress and care for the calling of God.
Joseph-growing character
Pit-prison-palace-17 year old-30 year old 13 year journey
Abraham-growing his leadership
75-100 25 years to have a son
These men both have a responsibility to live out the process of their life while they are waiting for the promise
That is where frustration sets in
Don’t be weary in well doing-tend to your relationship with God
We focus on our weaknesses too much when we find ourselves struggling and it becomes self defeating
Live in our strengths , focus on our weaknesses only as God gives us grace
As He traces the image of Grace over us, we work on our weaknesses
His strength is made perfect in our weaknesses
Can’t operate in things of the spirit by the flesh
Some of you may be really struggling with God’s plan for your life, and the how’s, and when’s of it all-
But if you’re facing it, you can face it!
In life you go from faith to faith and glory to glory but in between that is PROCESS
Proverbs says that there is safety and wisdom in a multitude of counsel
Follow after those who through faith and patience have inherited the blessing.
Get some people around you that have gone through the same stuff…
My Process
Dec 2006-Aug 2007
House sold-no sign, just money, parents house
Port Huron church
Kensington
Sept 2009 launch with Horizons Church
New house-no grass, no air, no appliances, external shell, but not furnished
Grass-around house weeds waiting to creep in, weed and feed to keep it healthy
Gen 50:20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. 21 No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them.
The process is there to validate you on the other end so you can’t say you did it on your own.
IT’S WHERE YOU WANT TO BE
Sat pm
Passion
Outburst or strong feeling
Pursuit of Passion results in Process
The connection between vision and destiny
From inception to delivery
We leave what is comfortable to follow the calling of God
I’m passionate about a few things…
Wife, kids, calling, my job, money, finishing right, and my relationship with God.
Ex: Angelo standing on bridge when I came home and said I want to jump right off this bridge into your arms!
Process in life brings about Passion-in the process of life you discover strong feelings toward certain goals
Psa 107:35-36
35 But he also turns deserts into pools of water, the dry land into springs of water. 36 He brings the hungry to settle there and to build their cities.
Process of God makes you hungry for Him as He begins to dig deeper in you for the real stuff
God is not interested in externals but internals
Ex: Lakeville, deep channel runs on North end of lake, keep your line down there where cooler waters are and you catch the bigger fish!
The purpose in the process is to bring about the right passions!
Repentance-brings change
Reboot-brings new way of thinking
Renew-function in the call!
The passion of JC was the suffering He experienced after the last supper thru His death on the Cross.
Passion is not a one way street, but God also runs to you, He did it through the Cross
He did it in the parable of the lost sheep, lost coin, lost son, and Peter.
God runs to us to fulfill His purpose in us
John 1:17 the law was given by Moses but grace and truth came by JC!
When we say passion the first word I think about is Sex-3 sec for guys and 7 sec for girls
But passion has less to do with what self can get, but how it can benefit and prefer others.
Passion has a lot to do with death and dying to self
Gal 2:20 20I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
You can’t kill a dead man!
Gideon
Judges 6-8
Scaredy cat, least in his entire family, he’s unsure of himself, but very passionate about a few things
The passion of God’s call comes as people are immersed in the challenge of the moment
Gideon was trying to procure food while the midianites were stripping the land
Gideon was passionate about three things
Responsibility for his family
He doubted the call on himself
Feelings of inadequacy for the job
Gideon was a man that believed God by giving attention to the tasks at hand, believing that God would prepare him for future tasks.
1. mighty man of valor
2. where are the mighty miracles
3. I will be with you and destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man
4. really you-wait while I cook
5. Go pull down your father’s altar to Baal
6. 2 fleeces
7. 32000-300
8. crept into Midian camp overheard a dream of a barley loaf falling down the hill and defeating camp, so Gideon knew God was at work.
9. get up God has given victory because of a dream of a loaf of bread tumbling down a hill.
10. torches, horns and jars, and shouting for the lord and for Gidion, defeated Midian, which never recovered
11. Gideon reigned 40 years of peace, 70 sons, many wives, and concubines
Conclusion
§ God was digging deep for a change in Gideon’s life to get him to see himself as a leader, not weak.
Digging for a change
Ex: Angelo’s potty training story-dad I peed, will you change me.
There is a generation looking for a change, for their Heavenly Father to bring about a change of clothes for them and reveal their true passions for JC.
Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”
The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”

Mat 4
1. The Temptation of Christ
2. Jesus Earthly Ministry
3. The Calling of the 4 Fisherman
4. Jesus Itinerary
1. The Temptation Of Christ
Mat 4:1-11 Read
This is really about Obedience
Temptation is not sin-thought of evil
You can’t show true obedience if you have never had an opportunity to disobey.
Your convictions are only strong if they hold up under pressure.
If Jesus would have given in to the pressures, his mission on Earth would have been lost.
So when you are being tempted consider the fact that Satan may be trying to block God’s purpose in your life.
Remember God doesn’t tempt you with evil, Satan does. God leads in Paths of Righteousness.
If you find yourself being led in temptation a lot, chances are you need to run from that arena, and not allow yourself to be drawn into it.
Jesus wasn’t tempted in high moments like in the Temple or at his baptism, but when He was vulnerable, tired, hungry, and alone.
When you are under stress, weighing big decisions, and faced with uncertainty.
You can be tempted through your strengths as well, that can be most susceptible to pride.
3 Areas of Testing
1. Physical Needs and Desires
2. Possessions and Power
3. Pride
Hebrews 4:15 Jesus faced all the same testings we do, yet passed them all without sin.
The way we turn to God for strength is by…OBEYING
Jesus found strength in obedience.
We think the more we resist the better we will be, but that just mentally wears us out.
The more we obey, the stronger we will be!
James 4:7 gives the formula-humble yourselves before God (obedience), resist the Devil (authority), and he will flee from you (freedom and spiritual growth).
Temptation is often the combination of a real need and a possible doubt that creates an inappropriate desire.
James says you are tempted when you are drawn away of your own lust.
3 things against you are the world the flesh and the Devil.
Jesus not only knew the scriptures but he obeyed them.
Many of our desires are God-given, but possibly not to be acted on till the right time.
Jesus was hungry, but He did not make the stones to become bread, meaning He did not fulfill an immediate need just because He was hungry
We may also be tempted to satisfy a perfectly normal desire in a wrong way or at the wrong time.
Trying to fulfill God-given desires in wrong ways is a problem
With desires comes certain ways to fulfill them, and certain times, or the right time.
Not only knowing scripture, but obeying it will help follow God’s desires for our lives.
At times we ask God for signs, but really he wants us to live by faith and trust Him
Duet 6:16 don’t put God to a test, He still may reveal Himself to you at times like that, but don’t try to manipulate God that way or twist scripture to make it say what you want.
If you’re focused on signs, the potential is there to distort your view and not focus on God’s real plans for your life.
Certain blessings could be closed to you because of disobedience in our lives.
But with Repentance, that opens the doors of God’s provision to us.
If you find yourself craving what the world offers remember Jesus’ words when He said, You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.
Big Formula
Worshipping God through obedience can break the cravings of this world.
2. Jesus Earthly Ministry
Mat 4:12-17
Jesus had moved from his hometown in Nazareth to Capernaum about 20 miles N.
Possibly to have the greatest impact on the greatest number of people. The message could spread quickly, and utilize resources and support for His ministry.
Jesus came on the scene preaching, “Repent of your sins, and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”
It was great news to know you could be healed, saved, and live eternally with God in Heaven
Becoming a follower of Christ means turning away from our self-centeredness and self control and turning our life over to Christ’s direction and control
3. 4 Fisherman Follow Jesus
Mat 4:18-22
Church, Bible study, spiritual things are the evidence of someone fishing for people.
Ex: up in Houghton lake-go where the fish are.
Ex: movie the perfect storm, steam out to the Flemish cap- even though there were storms, it’s where the fish are.
This is where the fish are.
God calls individuals, families
They didn’t make excuses about why they couldn’t follow Him, they just did it.
4. Jesus Itinerary
Mat 4:23-25
Words about Jesus were out
And people are coming from long distances to hear him and be healed by him.
He proved who He was by doing the work of the Kingdom, preaching, teaching and healing the sick.

From the Gutter to Glory
Horizons Church
Tell the World
FROM THE GUTTER TO GLORY
7/23/08
INTRO
· How many want to see the Glory?
· Glory=manifested, tangible presence of God
· The road to Glory is not paved with good fortune, or the accolades of men
· It comes through sacrifice, hard work, blood, sweat, and tears.
· Ex: movie Replacements-keanue Reeves- quarterback, last few moments of the game and he is inspiring his team in the huddle…
Pain Heals, chics dig scars, but Glory lasts forever
· Glory can also represent moments of accomplishments, high moments, reward for your work and diligence, a job you have landed, or maybe one of your kids received certain honors
· When you have worked really hard at something and spent a lot of time and money invested into a project or organization it becomes very difficult to walk away from what you have committed yourself too.
Obj
· I want to help you identify the seasons that some of you may in, and encourage you to continue doing the right thing, even though it may be difficult
· No sacrifice is too great to have the Glory of God rest on you
· From the gutter to glory
Premise
When we begin to sacrifice our desires for the one who created our will, then God increases in our lives
Body
· Whenever you begin to talk about sacrifice and giving up in a church setting like this people immediately begin to think, ok what do I have to give up…
· I can’t pet the dog for a week, or listen to my favorite radio station, nothing to do with that
· We think we have to give up stuff…………….but it’s not about what you’re giving up but what you’re running too!
· *when the desire of the one your running too becomes greater than what you are leaving behind, than you know you are in hot pursuit.
Ex: when I come home from work the kids run up to me and want some love-they pursue what they want.
Ex: when I met Ashley I pursued her, I chased her until she caught me and put a rock on her finger,
The sacrifice was selling my mustang gt conv.
Many people sacrificed to get to Jesus
1. Paralyzed man had his 2 friends lower him down through roof in middle of service
2. zacceus climbed trees
3. woman pushed through crowds with issue of blood
4. others followed Jesus 3 days w/o food just to hear him
· there was always a ridiculous sacrifice made to have the glory of God
· even our own salvation experience is based on a great sacrifice
2 Sam 5:4-10 read
· From the Gutter to Glory
· Up the road lay 78 acres of high flat land that David wanted
· One road up and one road down, road was guarded and the gutter was not
· Who wants to guard a sewer anyway?
· The gutter back in David’s day was a sewage tunnel, it all flows down, later in king Hezekiah’s day it was cleaned up and became a water tunnel for clean pure water, which later became known as Warren’s Shaft
· At this point it was still sewage
· Jebusites thought they would mock David, thought they were so secure they had the blind and the lame keeping watch over the walls of the city and the one road leading in and out.
· How do blind people watch over anything?
· The first thing David did when he became King was go looking for a fight
· David was King over Hebron, but not King over all Israel yet.
· He could not celebrate by reigning in Hebron knowing that God had called him to rule all Israel
· David couldn’t celebrate knowing that the enemy was co-habiting the land with him. The place God called him to rule
· Some of you think that you are going to go up the road to Glory but that would be too easy. But not w/o challenge
· To the degree that you make yourself available to God He will begin to draw Himself closer to you.
· Don’t allow sacrifice to be a stumbling block to your purpose
· David was willing to do anything he could to reign over Israel
· Some of you been looking for a breakthrough, but want it on your own terms
· Get in the gutter, lay agenda’s down, plans down
· That insignificant thing may be the Token God uses to bless you
· God doesn’t put new wine into old wineskins, nor does He put a new patch on old clothes
· I’m saying God has a new way for you, it’s different than what you think
· From the Gutter to Glory
· you can’t get to the glory w/o the gutter
· It’s in the gutter or hard times when commitment, trust, character is developed
· Some of you want the glory and the blessing w/o paying the price for it
· If we went up our own way, the bright shiny yellow brick road we would die
· Jebusites guard that road, but God, if it had not been for the Lord
· How many been through some gutters in your life?
· Gutters can represent-marital problems, financial issues, instability with job, family conflicts etc.
· But how many know that the gutter was necessary to bring about the Glory that shall be revealed in us!
· Ex: God usually has a different way for us other than what we think, must sell your house Dan, move into your parents house, then have the house you wanted.
· Ex: driving to Houghton lake for years up 75N. I refused a different way for 2 years knowing that another way might be faster, but I was stubborn, finally did it and it was almost 45 min faster.
· You pay the price for what God has for you and you will have something way better than what you see here, stop competing with each other and pursue God yourself
· You pay the price of hard work
· Want a paycheck? Go to work!
· 2 sam 5:7 Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion in the face of the mockers
· David could not reign in Hebron knowing that the enemy was co-habiting Jerusalem with him
· vs 9 David dwelt in the stronghold and renamed it the city of David
· He brought the ark in to replace the seat of sin.
· vs 10 David went on and grew great and the Lord was with him.
· You grow when you allow God to sit on the throne of your heart where Satan used to rule.
· Lord is with you
· God is calling you to a higher place, His way
Conclusion
Took the stronghold
Dwelt in the stronghold
He grew because he was willing to sacrifice to have what God wanted him to have, control of Jerusalem and Hebron
God wants you to have dominion in places that are presently ruling you.
You will rule over areas that originally used to rule over you.

Sarah's Life Lessons
Sarah’s Life Lessons
7/6/08
The Journey
As I thought and prayed about it I believe there are some life lessons that we can parallel from Sarah’s life
As I began to study this out a bit more, I found that a lot of my life has consisted with similar attitudes that Sarah faced.
Gen 23:1-3,19-20, 24:67
Obj
Sarah’s Life Lessons
She had learned enough in life that her family missed her when she was gone
Its good to be missed isn’t it?
How many love to wait? Everywhere we go we have to wait-blockbuster, restaurants, stoplights, the grocery store, and even the express checkout cause there is always that person that has more than 12 items! Most of our life is spent waiting for something. Our lives our spent not on the mountain tops, but in the journey through the valley of the shadow of death, or climbing higher. The top of a mountain is very small, not room to camp, but lots of room at the base of the hill.
Sarah died @ 127 and her son Isaac doesn’t marry till he is 40. 3 years after his mothers death Isaac is still missing her and her husband Abraham is 137 years old when his wife dies and about 3 years later Abraham remarried and had six more children!
When God performs a miracle it doesn’t die out!
And Abraham lives to the ripe old age of 175
The story starts in Gen 15:4. God tells Abraham that he will have a son who will be his heir… He is about 85 years old. His wife Sarah believed God but did not know how it was going to happen, then the drama starts. Have you ever been in a place where you believe God, but you just don’t know how it is all going to happen?
The problem here is Sarah is barren-how will she give her husband any child?
How many of us have ever taken matters into our own hand?
She tells her husband to sleep with her servant Hagar-Abraham is almost 86 years old here, no spring chicken
Like an obedient husband he concedes! I’m sure it didn’t take him long to think that one through. After Hagar is pregnant and starts treating Sarah horribly. Talk about drama? Sarah now is jealous because Hagar is pregnant, instead of waiting for the blessing of God to show up. Sarah had trouble believing God’s promise-so she gave everyone else trouble! When we try to make God’s promise come thru in our own human efforts, we find we are more frustrated then if we just would of waited for God’s timing. In waiting for God He is able to build the character and faith that it takes to sustain the promise when it does arrive! Don’t interfere with the plans of God-it will work out! Look at your neighbor tell them it will be ok! Just chill.
The main story of Sarah’s life is not Isaac, but what led her to Isaac, inspite of herself Meaning “Process” We are all in process.
Sarah arranged Hagar to have a child by Abe, later blames him for the results, strikes out in frustration 14 years later and tells Hagar and her son to leave the house-
Sometimes we just want to get rid of our problems by throwing them out.
Hagar wasn’t her problem-Sarah was Sarah’s problem-lack of faith, impatience, frustration with her own inability to have children-Anger can be very dangerous when we realize our own inabilities!
Running away from our problem doesn’t help us solve them
God spoke to Hagar to return and submit and work on her attitude toward Sarah, no matter how justified it would have been-return to your problems so you might face them and solve them.
3 people make serious Mistakes
1. Sarah took matters into her own hand, and gave her servant to her husband
2. Abraham went along with it. He knew better according to Gen 15:4, he also didn’t help the issue, he just told Sarah to deal with it.
3. Hagar ran away from the problem
Is this not the biggest drama in the Bible?
God still demonstrated His ability to work all things together for good inspite of this soap opera
God is still bigger than our problems if we will yield to him and let him work.
Don’t tell me that 75 year olds can’t get mixed up in drama-
Ex: ever see the lethal weapon movies, Danny glover always saying, Im getting to old for this stuff.
Finally God appears to Abraham @ 99, 15 years later, after some of the drama cools down and everyone dreams have died, about this time next year you will have a son.
God’s ways are not our ways. Character had to be developed in this family before the blessing could come!
By the time you die to yourself-God resurrects the promise on the inside of you.
Sarah laughs in the tent behind Abraham, God asks Sarah if she laughed, she said no, then God said, no you did laugh, how can a worn out women like me have a child?
Is anything too hard for the Lord?
What parts of your life seem to be on hold right now?
It may be part of God’s plan for you.
It took patience to receive the promise of God
Isaac got his name from what his mother did when she found out she would get pregnant at 90
How you respond when God speaks to you can determine the outcome.
Follow after those who through faith and patience have inherited the blessing
Unless corn of wheat falls into the ground and dies it abides alone, but if it dies it will produce much fruit
Our will needs to die in order for Jesus to live out of us
Interesting thing about Sarah’s death, she died and had inherited the promise Heb 11:13
Strengths
God gave her 37 years with her son Isaac
She was loyal to him and became an ancestor of Jesus
She was a woman of faith, the first woman listed in the Hall of faith in Heb 11
Weaknesses
She had great challenges to her faith by taking matters into her own hand
Attempted to work problems out on her own without consulting God
Tried to cover her faults by blaming others
Lesson Learned
God responds to faith in the midst of failure
God is not bound by what usually happens-He can stretch the limits, and cause unheard of events to occur
Heb 11:11 it was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep His promise.
When your patience gets frustrated with time, give into God
Is anything too hard for the Lord?

Joseph's Vision
Dream On
Vision #2
Intro
§ Prov 29:18 KJV 18Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keeps the law, happy is he.
Obj
Gen 37:19-20 NLT
19 “Here comes the dreamer!” they said. 20 “Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns. We can tell our father, ‘A wild animal has eaten him.’ Then we’ll see what becomes of his dreams!”
§ You have got to be able to dream dreams in order to receive vision.
Premise
§ Other people will always be there to criticize the vision because they can’t see God using you that way. Or you don’t qualify in their eyes.
§ “We’ll see what becomes of his dreams”.
Vision
§ Vision is a picture of the future
§ A reason for existence, & gives timeless unchanging core values
§ A vision is simply an aspiration or a description of a desirable world that exists within the imagination that can inspire people, bring meaning to their work, mobilize them to action, and help them decide what to do and what not to do in the course of their work.
§ An effective vision strikes a chord in people, motivates them by tapping their competitive drive, arouses desire for greatness or interest in doing the right thing, tantalizes them with personal gain, or appeals to their need to make a difference in the world.
§ A vision is an idealized picture of the future and it expresses a reason for existence.
§ Visions grab people and then bring them into the fold.
When a leader's vision is effective and strong, people get caught up in what they are doing, absorb the vision, and commit themselves to the goals and the values of the leaders.
How do you create a vision?
Dream Big
§ Dreaming is the first step.
§ Go ahead and dare to dream about what you can do and what is possible to accomplish.
§ Don't be afraid to dream big.
§ You can always scale down to meet the realities of the situation, but dreaming big allows you to think about ideas that may not seem likely, yet are in fact possible.
§ Thinking big also forces you to think about the long term, always a useful thing to do.
§ You have nothing to lose; it doesn't cost a nickel.
§ Can you recall a time when you got a wild idea in your head and your heart started beating fast and you wondered what it would be like if you could make that idea happen?
§ Ex: I would dream about what it would be like to be a husband, father, now all my dreams have come true.
§ Maybe you think, "Oh that's impossible.
§ How can I be so foolish as to think that!"
§ However, often the ideas that feel foolish, may have the most potential.
§ They are often ideas that are new to the world.
§ Learn to value and trust your God given dreams
§ If you get an idea that makes your heart sing, chances are good that others will come to sing along with you.
Joseph’s story Gen 37-50.
Gen 37:2-5 NLT
This is the account of Jacob and his family. When Joseph was seventeen years old, he often tended his father’s flocks. He worked for his half brothers, the sons of his father’s wives Bilhah and Zilpah. But Joseph reported to his father some of the bad things his brothers were doing.
3 Jacob[a] loved Joseph more than any of his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age. So one day Jacob had a special gift made for Joseph—a beautiful robe.[b] 4 But his brothers hated Joseph because their father loved him more than the rest of them. They couldn’t say a kind word to him.
5 One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever
Joseph’s Dreams
1. Tying Bundles of grain, my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine.
2. The sun, moon and 11 stars bowed low before me.
§ What kind of dream is that? Will your mother and I bow before you? His father wondered what the dreams meant.
The pit-thrown in by jealous brothers, sold into slavery by his brothers to the Ishmaelites. 30 day journey through the desert chained on foot all the way to Egypt.
Potiphar’s house- purchased by Potiphar, Egyptian officer, captain of the guard for Pharaoh, King of Egypt.
The prison-Joseph worked on first floor while family occupied upper stories, wrongfully convicted for raping Potiphar’s wife, 2 years in prison.
The palace- interprets some dreams, released out of prison for interpreting dreams for Pharaoh himself, giving him a 14 year survival plan to see Egypt get through famine.
§ Pharaoh makes Joseph 2nd in command in all Egypt and all his family, Father and sons bow before Joseph because of his dreams.
§ There were 7 years of famine, but there was grain in all Egypt.
§ God used Joseph’s dreams, to preserve his family inspite of his family.
§ Joseph’s dreams were fulfilled for his family, but that is where he found the initial resistance
§ Joseph was 17 when sold into slavery, now 30 years old when he became the ruler over Egypt
§ He spent 13 years as an Egyptian slave and as a prisoner.
Conclusion
§ He was betrayed by his family, deserted, exposed to sexual temptation, punished for doing the right thing, endured long imprisonment, and forgotten by those he helped.
§ His positive response transformed each setback into a step forward.
§ He didn’t spend much time asking why
§ His approach was “what shall I do now?”
§ Those around Joseph new that wherever he went and whatever he did, God was with him.
§ When you are facing a setback, a Joseph like attitude is to acknowledge that God is with you
§ Nothing like the presence of God to shed new light on a dark situation.
Gen 50:20-21
20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. 21 No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them.
§ All because Joseph had a dream, dream on.

Seeker of Truth
The Incarnation of Jesus Christ
Matthew is one of Jesus disciples. Once he was a despised tax collector, but his life was changed by Christ. Matthew wrote this letter to his fellow Jews to prove that Jesus is the Messiah and to explain God’s Kingdom.
Matthews gospel opens with a genealogy to prove that Jesus is a descendant of both King David, and Abraham just as the OT predicted. Shepherds and wise men came to worship him. The Jewish people were waiting for the Messiah, the Savior to appear. However when He was born they didn’t recognize Him because they were looking for a different kind of king.
Phil 2:5-11
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God,[a] he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges[b]; he took the humble position of a slave[c] and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,[d] 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Divine priveleges given up-omnipotence all power, omniscience ability know everything, omnipresence ability to be everywhere at the same time.
Mat 1:18-25
18 This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. 19 Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement[a] quietly.
20 As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus,[b] for he will save his people from their sins.”
22 All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet:
23 “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel,[c] which means ‘God is with us.’”
24 When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. 25 But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.
The Virgin Birth is important to the Christian faith for 4 reasons.
1. Jesus, God’s son had to be free from the sinful nature passed on to all other human beings by Adam. When we were born, we were born into sin, with a sinful nature. When Christ was born, he was born into a sinful world, but did not have the sinful nature, because he retained His divinity or divine attributes through God who did not allow Joseph to be with Mary until Jesus was born.
2. Jesus was supernaturally born of a woman who remained a virgin until He was born
3. Jesus was a sinless human being
4. Jesus was fully divine, or God in the flesh
We all face difficulty in life, and Joseph faced the same with his wife being pregnant. She should have been stoned but God encouraged Joseph through some dreams.
Angels were sent to help declare these occurrences. Being that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, this reveals that Jesus was fully human and fully God. The Infinite God took on the limitations of humanity so He could live and die for the salvation of all who would believe in Him.
Jesus means the Lord Saves. We couldn’t save ourselves from sin and its consequences.
No matter how good we are, we can’t eliminate the sinful nature present in all of us. Jesus is the only one that can do that. He didn’t come so we could save ourselves, but came to be our Savior from the power and penalty of sin.
Your new life in Christ came from the moment you accepted Christ’s death and resurrection, and you asked Him to take control.
Prophesied in Isa 7:14 the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin[a] will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).
Incarnation- embodied in mortal form, give bodily form
God gave Jesus bodily form through the incarnation of the Virgin Birth
Luke 1:26-37
26, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you![a]”
29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel[b] forever; his Kingdom will never end!”
34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”
35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. 36 What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she’s now in her sixth month. 37 For nothing is impossible with God.[c]”
John 1:1, 14
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh, or human and lived among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.
Heb 10:5 you prepared a body for me.
Jesus has this miraculous entrance into humanity
The reason why Joseph had nothing to do with Jesus entrance is very important. Mat 1:25 he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. Here’s why that is important.
Jesus would not of been able to claim the legal rights to the throne of David. Jer 22:28-30, there could be no king in Israel who was a descendant of King Jehoiachin, Mat 1:12 relates that Joseph was from the line of Jehoiachin. Jesus would have been from a cursed lineage.
Objections to the Virgin Birth
1. Miraculous, but if you believe that Jesus fed the 5,000, walked on water, and healed many people, the virgin birth may not be so far out there. If an all powerful God who spoke all creation into existence does exist, than the Virgin Birth may not be beyond His capability
2. Biological impossibility-Virgin Birth contrary to the course of nature
3. Some thought they could trace it to Greek or Babylonian mythology except for the fact that there is no hero in pagan mythology for which a virgin birth is claimed, plus it is unthinkable to the Jewish mind to construct a story from mythology. Deities in mythology were born unusually, but remember, they never actually existed!
There were some objections to the virgin birth, but it doesn’t change the fact that Jesus still came, and came to save us from our sins.
How do we enter the Kingdom of God?
Jn 3:3,5 must be born again to see the Kingdom of God
How is Jesus different from Mohammed, Buddha, and Confucius?
Jesus Christ claimed to be God, and allowed himself to be worshipped as God. Rms 1 declared to be the Son of God with Power! The power of that claim was validated by the resurrection of Christ.
Mohammed believed himself to be a prophet, Buddha-seeker of truth, Confucius never claimed to be anything other than a wise teacher. Jesus alone claimed to be God.
Jn 9:35-38 it is He that is talking to you.
Why does Christ make all these claims?
He loves the people in the world, and Mat 1:21 and wants to save the people from their sins.
Was Jesus Christ always a man? No. He became man at the time of The Incarnation.
Jesus, the son of God, while retaining his divine nature, took upon himself the nature of man. Jn 1:14
Joseph was not the biological father of Jesus, God Himself was. No holy seed either, but a body God gave Jesus. The womb of Mary was the place where Jesus physically grew. But had nothing to do with the inception of Christ.
Example: our house is a place where the boys will grow up, eat, sleep, but the house itself had nothing to do with their initial conception. That was me!
That is what makes the Virgin Birth so supernatural. There wasn't any intervention from Mary’s normal reproductive cycle.
2 natures united in Christ- the divine and the human isa 9:6, mat 28:18, col 2:9, 1 john 1:7
Jesus put a face on God-Jn 14:9 you have seen me you have seen the Father
Jesus emptied himself of his eternal majesty and splendor to come to earth, but did empty himself of his divinity, love, kindness, compassion. His divine nature was undiminished in the incarnation.
It was necessary for him to become man to take our place under the law, and so He might die in our place. Gal 4:4-5, Heb 2:14
It was necessary for Him to be fully God to save us from our sins, and the penalty of sin, overcome death and the devil, and fulfill the law
Jn 1:17 Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Everything is Possible
Possibilities exist if you can believe for it.
Are there things that exist that you can't believe for?
Anything you won't believe for?
Remember faith is the substance of "things" hoped for the evidence of "things" not seen, Hebrews 11:1
If you can't see it, you can believe for it.
If you can see it, enjoy it!
But know that everything is possible.
There are no limitations with God. He believes. He has faith. (Mark 11:22-24).
He believes in you!
Everything is possible in your life, because God believes in you!

Taking Inventory
I have been hearing a lot about this lately. It is important to take inventory of our spiritual lives, and what we are communicating to others about their spiritual lives.
As leaders we must know the Bible. But know it in such a way that can be practically lived out.
I would like to see more Bible happening in our churches, then even being preached!
Many don't need to hear another sermon, but put into practice what we already know.
Either way persist in these things. Yourself, your teaching, and others.
1 Timothy 4:16.

The Gathering
I did not edit the format on this, so enjoy.
“5 Ways to Avoid the Pitfalls of Sex & Dating”
5/22/08
Intro
· 5 keys to help you avoid the pitfalls of sex and dating
· The term sex and dating should not be used in the same contexts actually
· Bible instructs us to live free from sexual immorality.
· God isn’t trying to rob you of fun and pleasure
· He has your best interests at heart.
Obj
· You have probably heard the term the Devil made me do it
· Well he can’t make you do anything
· He can tempt you to sin, but you make the choice
· And you must learn to avoid the pitfalls
Premise
· We are living in a world where voices are constantly feeding us information.
· TV, video, music, computers, internet, friends, parents, pastors, and teachers.
· The decisions we make today are the roads we travel tomorrow.
· The choices we made yesterday are the paths we take today
· One bad choice can mess up a perfect plan-most tragedies are not over night but a progression of bad choices.
Body
· Temptation- thought of evil
· A thought to act on something
· Temptation tests your faith in God, and works patience in you, James 1:2-3
· But if you endure temptation you will receive the crown of life, James 1:12
· God will never tempt you to do wrong. Temptation comes from the lure of you own evil desires. Evil desires lead to actions and evil actions lead to death.
· That’s why we needed the cross.
5 Ways to Avoid the Pitfalls
1. Run from Evil
· Make no provision for the flesh Rm 13:14, 2 Tim 2:22, Flee youthful lusts
· If you have to get new friends, than do it
· Don’t go to movies that will arouse your desires
· Abstain from an appearance of evil, 1 Thes 5:22
· And don’t be alone with the opposite sex when a relationship is involved
2. Purpose to Remain Pure
· Dan 1:8 Daniel made up his mind not to defile himself
· Just settle it in your heart to obey God’s Word
· Even when I wasn’t fully living for the Lord I had purposed in my heart that I would not have sex before marriage
3. Be Accountable to Someone
· Heb 10:25, warn each other, ask each other the hard questions
· It is easier to go through issues when you know that you are not the only one going thru stuff
· When you have to answer to someone else about your actions, it may help you stay on course.
· Ex: xxxchurch.com- accountability software that alerts 2 people of what websites that you have visited.
· 2 Sam 11:1-4a NLT King David
1 In the spring of the year,[a] when kings normally go out to war, David sent Joab and the Israelite army to fight the Ammonites. They destroyed the Ammonite army and laid siege to the city of Rabbah. However, David stayed behind in Jerusalem. 2 Late one afternoon, after his midday rest, David got out of bed and was walking on the roof of the palace. As he looked out over the city, he noticed a woman of unusual beauty taking a bath. 3 He sent someone to find out who she was, and he was told, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” 4 Then David sent messengers to get her; and when she came to the palace, he slept with her.
Progression in King David’s life of a few bad choices caused him to lose his friends, children, wives.
A. Stay Away from High Places
o see a lot from high places
o bigger they are the harder they fall
o easy to be trapped when your alone
o David should have been @ war but was home alone on a roof being tempted.
o Not the blade of the sword that destroys a man but the lack of character.
4. Be full of God’s Word and Develop Right Relationships
· Bathsheba was already married
· Psa 119:11-hide God’s Word in your heart that you might not sin against him
· The Word of God is a weapon against sin
· Will power is not enough
· *if you put God’s Word in your heart before the battle, God’s Word will come out in the battle when you need it.
· you spend the most time with will have the most influence over your life
5. Pray
· Mat 26:41, pray that you enter not into temptation
· People that pray a lot do not fall into temptation
· Jude says that He is able to keep you from falling
Conclusion
· God protects us from
o Broken heart-when you give yourself to someone sexually, you are giving a portion of your heart as well. If this person is not your spouse, then your emotions are in the hands of someone else
o Emotional baggage- Emotional ties very hard to break, not normal to break them
i. Relationships like snowball, continue to grow as long as they are rolling
ii. Emotional ties need to be broken when not of God
o The things you thought would never happen, Diseases of any kind.
· You are worth the wait
· If others won’t wait and tell you they can’t, they are lying because true love is patient.
· You are worth waiting for
Highways in California have runaway ramps for truckers going thru mts, going too fast, brake failure, fall asleep, sand pits to stop them
You must purposely save yourself for the Lord, and let Him restore any areas that have gotten out of control.

Build a Boat
He was very interesting. God called him at age 500 to build a boat that had never seen rain. He finished 100 years later, at age 600. And set sail for an entire year. Noah did not have a health insurance plan, vacation time, or any other mechanical forms of support that we carry today. Even though he was on a cruise for a year, it was not the type of cruise I would ever hope to purchase. Ever been to the zoo? Think of your worst day at the zoo, based on the smell, and multiply that times 365 days. That was Noah's experience with over 45,000 animals!!! What if they started procreating? What if Noah's shovel's broke? (for what?). Noah found favor in God's eyes. That favor was evident because of his close relationship with God (Gen 6:9). If you are going to build a boat, or anything else that might sustain you and others, make sure that you pitch it with a close relationship with God. Want to be used by God in a life altering way? Good. Build a Boat! Happy Birthday Noah you are 601 years old. Take the next 350 years relax-multiply!!! Noah died at age 950. What do you do that whole time? Time with God. Time well spent.

The Residency
We are not going the traditional way of church planting. Meaning, we are going to take some time to build and recruit people. Church planting takes great faith, but God is able. With the help of Kensington, they are giving us the tools and resources to plant a great church from the beginning. 80% of church plants fail within the first year. We will not fall into that category. God has positioned us for greatness, and not failure. We are running with the vision, and with patience, we will wait for it. And it will surely come! We still have the responsibility of fundraising for salary and resources. But God has been very faithful to us, along with our partners too. We have raised our salary for 2008 and are now fundraising for equipment costs such as sound, lights, children's ministry, etc. That cost is over $80,000. That is the next phase of fundraising as we look to raise that this year. Check out sites like Portable Church, or newchurches.com.
If you are part of the team, I will see you Thursday night at 8pm.
God Bless.

New House
Horizons small group has been meeting every Thursday from 8-9pm only. We purposely keep it to only 1 hour because if we don't we will pontificate all night! Plus the season of "The Office" gets recorded while we are doing the spiritual stuff. When that is over most everyone stays to watch it without the commercials!
God has been leading us in many things as transition is upon us again as we transition out of our Port Huron Church. That seems to be going OK, but some aren't so patient. And I don't mean me either! Transition is difficult enough as long as we continue to handle people with grace everything should work out well. We will miss our friends in Port Huron. But Michael W. Smith wrote a song that was titled,"Friends are Friends Forever If The Lord Is the Lord of Them". We will remain friends with them, but our relationship will simply be different. I appreciate all that God is doing in the Port Huron Church.
That fills you in......

Moving Forward
Movement is good in your spiritual life too.
Anything that is stagnant has the potential to have bacteria growing in it.
The lack of movement in life is a dangerous thing.
Some will sit around and wait for God to move and never get anything done.
I would be more on the proactive side-I move God!
God has done all for us to activate us, He is waiting on you!
Make the hard decisions you must make, and if you are wrong, then God is big enough to show you and lead you in another direction.
Don't worry you won't miss it! God is in control.
I believe it was Charles Stanley that said it takes many small steps before you take a large one.
Start taking steps toward your goals and let God open some other doors for you!

Interesting
I like that. No matter what endeavors we climb be humble enough to know that you don't know it all.
Don't judge others for what they are not, but accept them for who they are. Placing unrealistic expectations on others can be harmful to your health. Talk about everything.
In business you must perform, but relationships are not always so easy in terms of expectations of another. Some will meet your expectations, others will not. Leading others is a great task.
Humility doesn't place unrealistic expectations on others, but depends on the faithfulness of God.

3 P's
Joseph in Genesis 37-50 found himself in awkward situations. Some of it was because of himself, and other issues were based on the call of God.
We should say, the "price", of the call of God.
Joseph was thrown in a pit for proclaiming ridiculous grand visions of truth. I say ridiculous because if you have read that story, you would say too that he was ridiculous for telling all his older brothers, and his father and mother that someday that his whole family would bow before him in deep awe...
If my younger brother would of told me that, living at home, I would of thrown him in a pit too along with his coat of many colorful visions!!! I am saying that timing is everything. You can be right, but still be wrong. Right in what you are saying, but wrong in either the delivery, or wrong in the timing of that delivery. Joseph may have been able to spare himself the pit, even though God meant it for his good. But He did "meant it" (not a typo, read your Bibles!).
The Prison
After Joseph is pulled out of his lofty pit, he is sold into slavery where he is blamed for something that he never did. The prison is symbolic of a training ground. (A time where you know you can do the same things as successful people, but don't have the same connections or favor right now!) What God does in the prison is hold you back, put you on a shelf, and for a moment you feel forgotten about. Even though God hasn't forgotten about you, you are there for 2 reasons... to develop your character, and stay faithful to God. The experiences of the prison sustain you when blessings come. The prison works all the pride out of you, and allows Jesus to live in the flesh (Gal 2:20) through you. It is a necessary time. God's favor and anointing are built during this time.
The Palace
Later Joseph is exonerated for validated time in the pit, and the prison. He goes to the palace to rule as second in command only to the King of Egypt or Pharoah. Of course, now, all those lofty, ridiculous dreams don't seem to mean so much now, but they do come true. They come true because "Joseph being bowed to" is not the issue. The issue for Joseph to reign was not to glorify himself, but that a nation would be saved under starvation and famine. Those dreams came true not only because God had truly given them, but could I suggest that Joseph also submitted himself to the process of God. We know this because even when tempted with adultery with Potipher's wife, Joesph runs out not wanting to sin and dishonor God. He ran from the right thing.
Joseph began to see the process of God in his 13 year journey from going to the pit as a 17 year old boy. Then, the prison, and finally the palace at age 30. God has a method to what seems like madness to you. Remember, God is in control, not you.

too long
When I think about that progress, I think of Daniel, in the Bible. He definitely had quite a process that he went through as a prophet to his time.
He was taken captive from his family about 605 B.C. Then he was told not to pray, thrown into a pit of hungry lions, and made fun of by other court officers.
He served in that court over 70 years in government. God had given Daniel great end time visions plus the great prediction of the birth of the Messiah.
What made Daniel strong was his personal relationship with God in the face of opposition. Instead of focusing on his own dreams about 88 reasons why Jesus should of returned in 1988, he focused on his present relationship with God.
Because of Daniel's faith King's were humbled, or humbly understood that God was in control. Daniel was on a role realizing the sovereignty of God. (Which means, God can do whatever He darn well pleases). Daniel persevered through tough situations.
It may seem that you are in a den of hungry lions. Keep your relationship with God together and you will see the salvation of the Lord. More later...
