It's all about Him

God has spoken to me this morning in Deuteronomy 8, how that God takes one through a humbling process just to remind them that He (God) is the one that blesses, provides, and protects. I really feel like we are on the edge of something great at the church. God is going to cause our flocks and herds to prosper and grow, (Deut 8:13). God has reminded me today that He is going to do the things He initially said He would do. Let's not consider for a minute that we have done anything on our own, but realize all that God has done, has nothing to do with us and everything to do with Him.

Make sure that we obey the Lord in everything and remember that, it is He that has made us, and not we ourselves!

Psalm 100:3Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Check out the entire chapter of Deut 8 when you get a chance. God Bless. See you Sunday.

Communion

“koinōnia”

11/8/09

1Cor 10:16
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion 2842 of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion 2842 of the body of Christ?
koinōnia
1) fellowship, association, community, communion, joint participation,
a) the share which one has in anything, participation
b) intercourse, fellowship, intimacy
1) the right hand as a sign and pledge of fellowship (in fulfilling the apostolic office)
c) a gift jointly contributed, a collection, a contribution, as exhibiting an embodiment and proof of fellowship
fellowship 12, communion 4, communication 1, distribution 1, contribution 1, to communicate 1

Ex 12:1-13 NLT
§ Certain Holidays were instituted by God Himself
§ Passover was a holiday designed to celebrate israel’s deliverance from Egypt and to remind the people of what God had done.
§ Communion serves as reminders of God’s deliverance to those of us that know what God did and learning experiences for the younger ones.
§ For the Israelites to be spared from the plague of death, a lamb with no defects was killed and the blood of the lamb was smeared on the top and sides of the door posts signifying a cross.
§ The death Angel would pass-over the house, sparing the family from death
§ The lamb was a sacrifice, a substitute for the person who would have died in the plague.
§ For us to be spared from death, an innocent life had to be sacrificed in our place
Jesus was our Passover lamb sacrificed for us 1Cor 5:7
Heb 9:22,28
without shedding of blood is no remission.
28So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Conclusion
§ Passover each year became a holy day of annual remembrance of how God delivered the Hebrew people from Egypt
§ Pausing to remember the day when the death angel passed over their homes.
§ They gave thanks to God for saving them from death and bringing them out of a land of slavery and sin
§ Since the cross and resurrection of Jesus, we have experienced a day of deliverance as well, the day we were delivered from spiritual death and slavery to sin
§ Communion or the Lord’s supper is our Passover remembrance of our new life and freedom from sin.
§ The next time struggles and trials come, remember how God has delivered you in the past and focus on His promise of new life with Him.
§ Do this in remembrance of me…
1 Cor 11:23-26
23 For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread 24 and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you.[f] Do this to remember me.” 25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.” 26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.
We must discern the Lord’s body,
We can take communion in an unworthy manner too
· Not recognizing what God has done for you
· Professing Christianity, yet living contrary,
· practicing sin,
· harboring unconfessed sin or
· going against any of the commands of Christ
are all failure to discern Lord’s body.
Do this in remembrance of me
1. Remember what God did at Passover for the Hebrews
2. Remember what Christ did for you by dying and rising
3. Remember that Christ is returning, you show the Lord’s death till He comes
2 Corinthians 13:14 NKJV
14 [a]May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

1. Communion passed out in basket
2. Communion taken
3. Communion collected in a basket
